INTRODUCING ST. STEPHEN’S NEWEST STAFF MEMBER
This week we welcome Clara King into our staff team. She begins her work with us as a half-time Lay Pastoral Assistant. But, God willing (on a date that remains unconfirmed at the time of this writing), she will be ordained a deacon by the end of the month and then become our full-time Assistant Curate.
Clara is a lifelong resident of Calgary, an active member of our Parish, and a recent graduate of the Vancouver School of Theology where she received her Masters of Divinity degree. From 2005-2008 Clara spent the summer months as a diocesan “Vanner”, providing Christian education programming to rural parishes throughout southern Alberta. During those same years Clara led pilgrimages of young people to the ecumenical monastic community in Taizé, France, doing a four-month residency there herself in 2007. More recently, since her graduation from VST, Clara has worked for AIDS Calgary and as the Executive Director of Spiritual Directions.
The Diocese has been very supportive of Clara’s ordination and of this arrangement in particular. In fact, her full-time salary will be shared equally by ourselves and the Diocese for the remainder of this calendar year, with some form of diocesan assistance continuing in 2013. St. Stephen’s is recognized by the Diocese as a dynamic parish requiring a multi-staff team to meet its pastoral needs and to offer programmatic leadership.
We are so pleased to have Clara working in our midst, exercising her considerable talents and finding her way forward as a newly ordained person.
